Privacy policy

1. Who we are

SeeTheScale is operated by the person named in the Legal notice. For any privacy questions, contact info@seethescale.com.

2. Data we process

No accounts, no input stored on our servers. SeeTheScale needs no sign-up. What you select, or type under “Your own”, is kept only in the page address (URL), so that you can share exactly this view. We do not store it.

Server logs. When you open the site, our hosting provider processes technically necessary data (e.g. IP address, time, requested address, browser) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). These logs are deleted after a short time.

Share images. The graphic for sharing or saving is generated on our server from the values in the URL. No personal data is stored in the process.

Share buttons. The buttons for WhatsApp, X, Facebook, Reddit, Bluesky and Telegram are plain links. Nothing is loaded from these services until you click one; after that, their privacy policy applies. When you share, we copy the image to your clipboard – this happens only on your device.

Analytics (only with consent). We use Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) to understand which comparisons are used. It is only loaded if you agree in the cookie banner (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG). It sets cookies and sends usage data (e.g. pages viewed, device, browser, approximate location) to Google; your IP address is shortened. Data may be transferred to the USA; Google is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The data is deleted after 14 months. You can withdraw your consent at any time via “Cookie settings” in the footer.

3. Account, own comparisons and votes

You need an account to create your own comparisons and to vote. You log in with Google, with your e-mail address and a password, or with a login link sent by e-mail; your password is only stored encrypted (as a hash). We store your e-mail address – with Google login also the name and profile picture from your Google account –, your username (shown publicly), the comparisons you create and your votes. The legal basis is the performance of the user agreement (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). You can have your account and your content deleted at any time.

AI drafts. If you choose “With the AI” when creating a comparison, our server fetches the given links and sends the text of these pages (or the text you paste yourself), your description and the links to OpenAI to write a draft. Your name, e-mail address and username are not sent – only a pseudonymous identifier (a hash of your account ID), so that abuse can be traced to an account. We instruct OpenAI not to store the requests for later retrieval; OpenAI does not use API data for training but may keep it for up to 30 days to detect abuse. To limit you to 5 free drafts a day, we store the first link, the model used and the time of each draft with your account. The legal basis is the performance of the user agreement (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Please do not enter personal data in the description or the pasted text.

4. Cookies and local storage

• scale_consent – stores in your browser (localStorage) whether you accepted or declined analytics. Strictly necessary, no consent required (§ 25(2) TDDDG).
• _ga, _ga_* – Google Analytics cookies that recognise repeat visits. Only with consent, kept for up to 2 years.
• sb-…-auth-token – cookie that keeps you logged in. Only set when you log in; strictly necessary (§ 25(2) TDDDG).

You can change your choice at any time via “Cookie settings” in the footer.

5. Service providers

• Vercel Inc. – Website hosting. Privacy policy
• Supabase Inc. – Database and login (accounts, own comparisons, votes). Privacy policy
• Resend Inc. – Sending the login e-mails (confirmation, login link, password reset) and the confirmation when you delete your account; your e-mail address is transferred for this. Transfer to the USA based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Privacy policy
• OpenAI Ireland Ltd. – AI drafts (see section 3), only if you use them. Processing by OpenAI in the USA is possible; it is based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses in the data processing agreement with OpenAI. Privacy policy

Fonts are served from our own server; nothing is loaded from Google Fonts or other third parties.

6. Your rights (GDPR)

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. Requests to: info@seethescale.com

7. Changes

We update this policy when the website changes – in particular before analytics is activated. The date at the top shows the latest version.
